Way back in the very first episode of HBO's epic adaptation of George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones, Sean Bean warned us that winter was coming. Now it looks as though it's finally on its way with this trailer for the seventh—and penultimate—season of the series!
We've also had warnings of the carnage to come from cast members like Maisie Williams, who tweeted out the following after reading the scripts for this upcoming season...
“Just finished reading season 7, s**t gets REAL. I’d start preparing yourselves now… scratch that, nothing will prepare you for this… Holy BALLS.”
Holy BALLS indeed. Things are certainly coming to a head as Lena Headey's Cersei Lannister prepares to receive all manner of challenges to her ascension to the Iron Throne. Emilia Clarke's Daenerys has clearly formed an alliance with Peter Dinklage's Tyrion Lannister, and of course there's Kit Harrington's Jon Snow running around like he knows the score when, in fact, he knows nothing.
And did I mention the dragons? Man, it sure is getting real in Westeros and nothing can prepare us for what's to come. Literally. There are no longer any books to keep us up to date, so this is all uncharted territory. Fingers crossed they don't squander this opportunity to do something grand, and if this trailer is any indication, that's not going to be an issue. Season 7 debuts on HBO on July 16.
