One of the better running gags in 2014's The LEGO Movie involved Channing Tatum's Superman trying desperately to avoid Jonah Hill's Green Lantern. It looks as though the two will be back to keep this joke going in February's The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. The Justice League in this world appears to be growing as well, with a Jason Momoa-inspired and voiced Aquaman showing up alongside Supes, Wonder Woman, and the rest.
Looking at the cast list on imdb, it seems the only thing they're not continuing from the first movie is a trip to the real world. Will Ferrell isn't listed among the cast at all, and while that twist was a great surprise in the first LEGO Movie, it might seem old hat here. Not wanting to repeat absolutely everything from the first film is a key to any well made, successful sequel.
There's really no tougher act to follow than a surprisingly successful film that no one expected much from. The very concept of a LEGO movie seemed absurd six years ago, but now it makes perfect sense. It's also good that there have been two lesser LEGO movies since then, which helps lower expectations for the sequel considerably.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part assembles in theaters on February 8.
