David Fincher is one of those directors that movie nerds love to watch because he's so exacting and precise, you know that nothing ends up in a Fincher-directed project by accident. His work is enormous fun to dissect for fans of the craft, and it's what makes me excited for his latest Netflix series, Mindhunter

The series itself was created by Joe Penhall, the man who adapted The Road to the big screen in 2009, and is basically the FBI equivalent of SVU with Looking's Jonathan Groff and Fringe's Anna Torv as Stabler and Benson roles. The exciting part is that Fincher directed the pilot, in much the same way as he did for House of Cards in 2013. There's an undeniable feeling in this trailer that the guy who directed Se7en and Zodiac is responsible for this, particularly when that last bit of advice from the guy on the bed lands.

Fincher directs three total episodes, with documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia (Senna, Amy) directing two other episodes. The other really interesting thing to note here is that the show is co-written by John Douglas, a famed FBI criminal profiler whose research helped inspire the producers of such films as Silence of the Lambs. And also Criminal Minds, where Mandy Patinkin's character was directly based on Douglas. So there's some good pedigree here.

The entire ten episode first series debuts on Netflix on October 13, and I'm honestly pretty excited to see it. There's a wealth of TV out there right now but a real dearth of quality. Let's hope this is more the latter than the former. Check out the full trailer here.
