Battlefield 3 folks. You know it, I know it, but do you know how to play it? For the record, there are a gajillion ways to play the game and to play it well. The key is to discover the play style that yields you the most consistent success. For me, the L85A2 with a Kobra sight, foregrip, and heavy barrel, accompanied by an M320 Grenade launcher and .44 Magnum is that ticket to success.  That being said, perhaps I can enlighten you all with information that will put a spring in your step, points in your pocket, and bullets in your enemy's head. Oh yeah and it might just make you a better teammate which if you haven't heard, is kind of what the game's about.

1) Spot People Damn It

It's so easy to do and so frustrating when people don't. All you have to do is tap the back button. If you hold it, the score will pop up but multiple taps while you scan an area will put a nice fat arrow above any tango in your line of site. Tanks, mines, claymores, people, etc. can all be marked for your teammates to see.  Spotting saves lives, and makes you at least twenty times as effective as a teammate.

2) Your Minimap Is Your Best Friend

Hand in hand with spotting, the minimap will keep you alive through some crazy shit. Unfortunately, too many people (especially noobs) get so caught up in the spectacle of virtual war that they forget to check the bottom left of their screen. The minimap is a kind of sixth sense for the hardened soldier. Whenever somebody spots enemy personnel, armor, or explosives, they show up in bright orange on the map. A quick glance at the map can spot a sneaky little douche coming from behind to take your tags and do who knows what with your dead body. DON"T LET THAT HAPPEN. In addition to enemy intel, the mini map is great for locating friendly battle lines, health/ammo, and alternate routes around kill zones. In Hardcore mode it's especially important as spotting doesn't place a big fat arrow over enemy heads.

3) Play Your Class Maggots

If you're Assault and have a med kit make sure you're giving it out enough. Don't use it only when you're hurt but also around your teammates. Particularly around your teammates. Not only is this generally helpful but it's also a great way to rack up points. If you choose to replace your medkit with a secondary weapon, make sure you're remembering to pull it out in battle. For example I generally equip the M320 grenade launcher and I'm constantly using it to tear down walls, and it enemies when I don't necessarily have a clear visual on them.

If you're Support class and you have teammates around PUT OUT AMMO. You can shout out to a Support or Medic when you need something but too often you are ignored. I cannot express enough how important it is to stay on top of this sort of thing.  Ammo and health are essential for keeping the war machine purring along.

Engineers, you better be blowing stuff up with rockets and mines, or repairing friendly vehicles with the torch. In addition, keep an eye out for enemy claymores because you can pick them up and make them your claymores. Sweeeet!

4) Conquest and Rush Pissing You Off?

If  you're finding yourself frustrated by long hikes after dying, allow me to suggest Team Deathmatch. It's the first time this mode has shown up in a Battlefield game and makes things a bit more conventional. Maps are smaller and offer a pace comparable to that of its competitor with all of the perks of being a Battlefield game. The mechanics feel as great and grownup as always, and really, when was the last time you reduced a building to a mere skeleton in Call of Duty? I think we know the answer to that one.

Well folks that about does it for now.  Hope this helps and happy nut crushing out there!
