Henry Cavill Reportedly Done as Superman in the DC Cinematic Universe

Now that they've rid themselves of the shackles of Zack Snyder, DC is looking to clean house and get rid of whatever remnants of their DC Cinematic Universe no longer jive with their future plans. The first casualty of this is one of the marquee names of the franchise, and leaves the future of anything involving the big blue boy scout in limbo.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Henry Cavill is out as Superman for future film engagements, which is a bit of a shame considering he was one of the only things that worked about this cinematic universe. He did exactly what was asked of him, and when he grew into the Superman we all knew and loved at the end of Justice League, many of us were excited about Cavill's future playing the character.

It appears as if the actor's busy schedule is at least partly to blame. They had hoped to get Cavill suited up for a cameo in next April's Shazam, but couldn't make the timing work, leaving some WB execs rather upset. Add to the mix the whole mustache debacle and it becomes pretty clear why they'd use pretty much any excuse they could to get rid of Cavill.

This leaves the future of DC's movie offerings in a weird spot. Gal Gadot is still Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa is still Aquaman, provided his solo outing in December doesn't flop. Ezra Miller's Flash and Ray Fisher's Cyborg are in a weird holding pattern, and Ben Affleck is all but officially out the door as Batman. I'm not sure how they can justify keeping parts of the universe going while basically just ignoring others.

As always, DC's film division is a total mess. I'm probably not the only one sad to see Cavill go, but this more or less puts the final nail in the Zack Snyder-era for DC. Also, Deadline is now reporting that Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Creed) is a potential replacement as Superman. Cue internet exploding in three, two...
